New IBM z16 and LinuxONE 4 Single Frame and Rack Mount Options

In April, IBM released their new single frame and rack mount configurations for zSystems and LinuxONE. Discover what's new!

As the demand for integrated digital services continues to rise, organizations across all industries need to redefine customer experiences and streamline operations, seamlessly integrating across the full spectrum of technology and business priorities.

Integrating workloads in a hybrid cloud is an excellent way to gain access to new, exciting cloud-native capabilities and innovate with AI - but it poses a few challenges, including security, managing complex environments and regulatory compliance, along with increasingly stringent environmental regulations and risings costs.

The new IBM single frame and rack mount configurations for zSystems and LinuxONE, announced in April 2023, enable companies of all sizes to overcome these challenges and seamlessly co-locate IBM z16 and LinuxONE Rockhopper 4 with distributed infrastructure, bringing exciting capabilities to those environments. Combining IBM's very secure systems for high volume transactional workloads with cloud-native technologies, companies can now achieve greater levels of agility and cost optimization while being able to innovate with AI and quantum-safe technologies.

The new offerings are designed to enhance flexibility and sustainability in the modern data centerThese cutting-edge systems come with advanced capabilities for partition-level power monitoring and environmental metrics, allowing businesses to optimize their energy consumption and potentially reduce their carbon footprint. All this, while delivering the same level of  IBM security and transaction processing at scale.

The new rack-optimized footprint opens up opportunities to include systems in distributed environments with other servers, storage, SAN, and switches in one rack, which is optimized for co-location and latency for complex computing tasks (such as AI model training).

By installing the new configurations in data centers, businesses can unlock a whole new range of possibilities, including sustainable design, optimized AI solutions, data privacy, and  edge computing.
