NIS2 establishes a set of cybersecurity requirements that organizations must comply with. They include risk management, incident reporting, business continuity, technical & organizational measures to protect their systems and networks.
NIS2 applies to a wide range of entities, including both public and private organizations operating in essential and important sectors. (energy, transport, healthcare, digital infrastructure).
The previous NIS directive was considered insufficient in light of the evolving threat landscape, and NIS2 was designed to address these gaps and provide a more comprehensive and up-to-date framework for cybersecurity.
